About

Welcome to The 19th Green. I, as well as many of my good friends, am an avid golfer. I have been in the IT world for about six years now. So given those two factors I thought what better way to combine two things that take up a good portion of my life than to create a website. The goal is to create a website that my friends and I can enjoy and, hopefully, at the same time bring news, tips and some original and a somewhat biased view on the golf world as you know it.

Now when I said that I have been in the IT world for about six years, I meant that I’m an analyst. I have plenty of tech knowledge but am a complete novice when it comes to code. I know a little PHP and HTML but definitely not enough to build a website from scratch. So I set out to find a nice CMS (Content Management System) that would allow me to build the site that I envisioned without needing to know the coding involved right-away. Don’t get me wrong; I totally plan on learning the PHP, JAVA, HTML, etc needed to eventually build a site from scratch, but lets face it folks…I am all about instant gratification, so I cant wait until I learn.

So I set out to find a good CMS. There are plenty of open-source platforms out there (slight understatement) so where to begin. Well, I originally thought “Hey, i’ll just install ____ to my root and ill learn as I go.” I did this for a while, sometimes changing the CMS four times in a day. This can get tiresome for anyone checking out the site and frustrating for me because jeez….”I installed this CMS and have played around with it for some time now but I stil have nothing to show for it.” My plan was to document the whole process for that one surfer out there that stumbled across my site and give my experiences, insights and opinions on the CMS’s that I was trying out. Yeah, this didnt work out too well because everytime you change platforms you lose the data you had on the previous one. DUH!!!

This is my new route. I “plan” to get this nifty Wordpress blog rolling with golf news, updates, scores, tips…the works, while playing doctor on all the various CMS’s behind the scenes. I still plan on documenting the whole process with my likes/dislikes, frustrations and aggrivations and hopefully sometime before I am a Grandfather (not even a father yet) I will roll out the originally planned site. So folks, or should i say folk, bear with me while I work. Please feel free to join my blog, add comments, suggest articles, become a player on the site and together we can spread the word about the game of golf.

I sincerely hope to see you online soon.

Cheers,

Bfunk

Oh yeah, I added a short video of my man Tiggs. We were playing some course (name escapes me) outside of Chicago. We decided to take a break from the action at the Western Open because we knew Tiger was gonna win anyway. Yes, yes he did win. We, however, need to work on our game.
